Underground Detectable Tapes

Description

Marking tapes are used in underground systems to identify the buried structure. Detectable tapes contain a detectable solid aluminum foil. For non-metallic underground installations such as utility lines, PVC, and non-metal piping. The aluminum core allows detectability through a non-ferrous locator so the deeper the burial the wider the tape should be. All Underground tapes made to APWA approved colors to meet or exceed industry standards.

Bury Detectable Warning Tape over underground utility lines, gas pipes, communication cables and more to warn excavators and to prevent damage, service interruption or personal injury.

Coloring Coding Descriptions

The following recommendations shall be followed when permanently marking underground facilities:

Markers must be clearly visible.
Marker material shall be durable in nature.
Mark culverts if not readily visible. Mark both ends of all non-visible underground facilities.
Identify type of underground facility if not recognizable from the surface.

Underground facilities shall be marked in accordance with the following designated color code

Color codes

Color Code	Description	Application
RED	Black on Red	Electric power lines, cables or conduit, and lighting cables
YELLOW	Black on Yellow	Gas, steam, petroleum, or gaseous materials
ORANGE	Black on Orange	Oil, Communication, alarm or signal lines, cables or conduits, and fiber
BLUE	Black on Blue	Potable water, Wet firefighting lines
GREEN	Black on Green	Sewers, drainage facilities or other drain lines
